This composition is based on a helix. The Church, like a helix, grows without deviating from the law which forms her. As the law was given to Moses on Sinai, the Holy Spirit is poured upon the Church on the fiftieth day after the Passover.

The Fathers recognized a revelation of the Most Holy Trinity in the mysterious visitors to Abraham. The background figure on the left prefigures Isaac carrying the wood for his own sacrifice, and Christ carrying the cross. The ram signifies the sacrifice God will accept, that of His Son the Christ. Sarah offers bread, as the Church will offer Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

And he said to him: Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord: and behold the Lord passeth, and a great and strong wind before the Lord overthrowing the mountains, and breaking the rocks in pieces: the Lord is not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake: the Lord is not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire: the Lord is not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice. And when Elias heard it, he covered his face with his mantle, and coming forth stood in the entering in of the cave,
